Chinese Title: 小花仙

The Flower Fairy (or "Flower Angel" starting from season 3) is a Chinese magical girl series created by Taomee Network, adaptation of the hit MMORPG webgame with the same name debuted in February 14, 2014 in mainland China. Even though many of the characters from the original game made continuous appearances in the many season of the show, the setting and the story takes liberties and are not completely accurate to each other; making the animated counterpart a re-imagining of the source material in many ways. While the game takes place in a purely fantasy setting, the show chooses a rural town as the main location with urban fantasy elements; the world of the game being a back drop that bleeds into this otherwise mundane place and many of the main character starting out as regular school girls before getting granted their powers.

The Chinese name of the series ( 小花仙 / xiǎo huā xiān) actually translates to "Little Flower Fairy", making both English translations slightly inaccurate. For it to translate in to "Flower Angel" the show had to be titled " 花天使 / huā tiān shǐ ".

Not to be confused with the 80's anime "Hana No Ko Lunlun"; which both went with the "Flower Angel" as it's English title and as " 花仙子 " (Flower Fairy Child) while airing in China.

First episode was officially dubbed into English and uploaded to the internet to create interest for the companies who may be looking into localizing the show for English speaking audiences. But in the moment of writing, Flower Angel has never been translated, localized or aired outside of it's country of origin.

The show has been accused of plagiarizing Card Captor Sakura, various Precure seasons and other anime with uncanny similarities between some of the plot points and designs choices, causing controversy and outcry among the show's fans. However, no legal action has ever been taken against the company making the show by the rights holders of these properties. Despite this, the show is still loved and remembered fondly by many of it's fans and enjoys a cult following.

Xià Ānān ( 夏安安 )

Sha An An — Xia Anan in her " 圣灵套装 " / Holly Spirit Set, as seen in the "Flower Angel - The Big Movie: Miracle Girl"

As the main character until the season 5, Xia Anan is courageous girl that is also yearning for her mother, living alone with her father who is a professor in botany and their pet cat in their house that is half a greenhouse. Her longing for her causes her get out during the night and wonder around in their garden after hearing a crash sound and seeing a bright light coming from there, naively thinking it could be coming from her mom. To her surprise, the light was coming from the Fairy Elf King Camellia herself, and Xia Anan being the first one to find her bounds the two together and forces Camellia to form a contract with her as the girl's messenger fairy to be able to fulfill her duty while on Earth. She later explains to her that Flower Codex, a book securing a mysterious power, has attempted to be stolen by Evil Queen Yǎjiā while in the hands of Flower Queen of Labelle, only for it to be spread across the quiet town by Fairy Dai Weiwei to stop Yǎjiā an those royal to her from getting their hands on it. Meaning various Flower Fairy Kings like her with powerful magical abilities that can easily cause chaos in the human world are loose among the in the vicinity of their town. With her contract with her allowing Xia Anan to be an beneficiary of Camellia's powers, it is up to her to found the Flower Fairy Kings and also forming contracts with them, returning them into the Flower Codex, and also allowing her to harness their powers as well when needed.

She starts the series while having a crush on an upperclassman, but it doesn't last for long when she mutually develops feelings for Prince Kukulu, who she meets while he is under a curse that makes him much smaller and weaker than his regular form, almost like chibi version of his former self. But their relationship initially starts out rocky.

Qiān Hán ( 千韩 )

Being Xia Anan's best friend since childhood, Qian Han is a kind and lovely lady that becomes the Messenger of the Fairy of Love after forming a bond with Lulu, which is the youngest of the three daugthers of Flower Queen, allowing her to transform and fight alongside Xia Anan in her quest to brought back peace into the Continent of Labelle. She uses her "Bell of Compassion" ( 爱心摇铃 ) in combat to cast spells, which also can turn into a arrow in times of need.

She starts the series as regular school girl much like her best friend, often becoming an unassuming victim to Flower Elf Kings' magic shenanigans like many of Xia Anan's classmates and having to help her from the sidelines. But after season 2 starts, just like the other girls who would become messengers for the daughters of the Flower Queen, she transforms when Xia Anan couldn't because of Tabas's influence on her when the situation was dire to save her. However, this sudden change in roles causes feelings of inadequacy and jealousy in Xia Anan for a short time. Only when she risks herself to return the favor of saving her that Xia Anan gets her ability to transform back.

Yī Tóng ( 伊瞳 )

So called "Perfect Girl", Yi Tong is a child star that goes to a prestigious private school, White Bird Acedemy, separate from the school Xian Anan and Qian Han attends; making her debut in only season 2. Despite her upbringing and social status, Yi Tong is actually a very honest and kind girl who yearns for friends, but the name she has for herself and the prestige emotionally isolates her from others, making them assume she wouldn't care for their company. Only after meeting Xia Anan and Qian Han and with their encouragement that she manages to break out of her cold outwards appearance and opens herself up to others, communicating the change with a song sharing the name with her nickname; "Perfect Girl" ( 完美少女 ). She changes the song to be more upbeat without the knowledge of her music mentor, catching her by surprise.

After befriending Lusha, who is the middle sister out of daughters of the Flower Queen and of the Fairy of Beauty, she becomes her messenger, allowing her to transform and fight and makes her the third person to join Xia Anan's team.

In combat, she uses "Beautiful Magic Flute" ( 美丽魔笛 ), that she can play both as a flute and a guitar when casting spells and also spread it's strings both as an attack and defense method, as well as using them to attach objects they can leach onto together and to pull herself from place to place.

Shū Xīn ( 淑馨 )

Nicknamed "Little Star" by her cousin (this nickname being a pun on how her name sounds very similar to Chinese word for "Little Star", that being " 小星 " ( xiǎo xīng ), Shu Xin is a girl that is wise behind her years, but has poor health. Originally coming from Jiǔcāng Island, she transfers into White Bird Acedemy and starts attending school along with Yi Tong. Her cousin is actually the upperclassman Xia Anan has her crush on.
